Patricia Piccinini

Patricia Piccinini is an Australian artist who works in a a variety of media from painting, video and sculpture. Her work focuses on "unexpected consequences' surrounding animals and humans, bio-diversity and hybrids. The work that interests me are her hyperrealistic creatures that she creates using silicon and human hair. Even though these piece initially can repulse, when the meaning of each piece is explained - you feel connected to them, you understand them and can feel emotions towards them.

This one is called The Bottom Feeder which looks at the duality of a shark head and face of a Buddha as a mimic, which would make the onlooker connect with the shark so as not to harm it, the fact that humans are more dangerous than sharks is very ironic that the shark has evolved this backside to appease them.

Maybe my pipes could be organic instead of plastic, these sprouting rainbow pipes could resemble the skin of Piccinini's silicon structures,
