It all came down to the 3rd Feb 2020, when I would be presenting all of the work I have done on Identity and Cliche.
From my early start of embroidery, nail art and masks, to my silent viewing and and artist research from Marcus Coates to Tim Noble and Sue Webster. I feel that I have taken a winding path of elements and ideas.
Its been enjoyable but hard and at sometimes heartbreaking and now throughout these venues I have landed on this final piece.
I started with my powerpoint presentation which included work I have done and my journey to where I am now - including everything and then after showing my experimenting of the shadow bird, I asked my viewers to take a look at the piece set up on the adjoining room.
I had decided to not have any light projection as you enter room. I wanted the students and tutors to walk around my structure and examine what it was made of.
I felt it drew them in and they took great interest in the objects that were attached to each other.
Finally I turned on the torch and turned off the lights and my shadow appeared. It was a great feeling to see people gasp at the projected image and this gave me confidence in what I had created.
My feedback was good, people liked both pieces and the subject of how I would show both pieces came up.
Questions on projecting it onto something bigger - like a building and how the contents of the structure and this opened up a conversation on mental health which was good.
All in all, I felt that the presentation went well and I look forward to my mark and feedback.
