The Quay Brothers are identical twins born in the US, who studied at the Royal College of Art. Their work is based around Kafka, German Expressionism and Folklore.
In a interview they spoke about how they choose their content, the story and characters in their work. Sometimes it can be a whole accumulation of things that have been accidentally assembled. This story is then made into a kind of Dusty nightmare

In their creation - The Comb, you are connected with a sleeper and her dream character, which is a little broken doll that is trying to escape from a labyrinth of tunnels, ladders and scenes under the bed.

Street of Crocodiles (1986) is what drew me to their work, this short story based on Bruno Schulz's short story, follows a puppet investigating a dusty theatre, the film includes beautifully stop motion filming of screws coming out of wood and rolling around.
I would like to use this example in my piece, giving these items that make my shadow, have a life of their own, moving about dancing and finding their way to the wooden structure to complete and create my shadow.
