Rainbow making day

I was still waiting for the plaster to dry so decided that saturday was going to be a Rainbow day, so I enlisted my husband and daughter to draw as many rainbows as they could before going completely insane.

The idea was to cover the whole splash with rainbows, like they were being jetted out of a pipe and splashing against a wall. I wanted these rainbows to look like children had drawn them and each one to be different. I think in the end we made up to 200 rainbows and this still wasn't enough.

Im sure there is a saying somewhere that you can be "rainbowed-out" - well if not we've created it, I don't think I've drawn so many rainbows in my life!!

Another thing that I wanted to change from the sculpture was the effect on the pipe. I had surrounded it in chicken wire but didn't like the finish of on it and wanted the flow of rainbow juice to be solid and smooth.

I decided to strip back the plaster/modroc and chicken wire and cut right up the the centre of the explosion, I wanted to create what would really happen but by building a backsplash.

I feel this looks much better and will now cover it with more rainbows.. While building the little modification I also decided to paint the ceiling and walls. I decided on a grey/blue colour as I felt that black would have looked too harsh and white wouldn't help highlight the jet.

This was the same paint we painted our front room in during lockdown so I felt it added a personal touch.
