For God's sake, I sat and looked at the Chaos painting and couldn't see what I could do to it. I needed another completely different idea.

In my final essay which is all about my practice and who I am, who inspires me I looked up the artist Jim Shaw and his Thrift Store Gallery piece, his homage to awful art, bad art that makes you wonder - "Why??" - Shaw is a collector of art and loves anything that is wacky and weird. Looking through is work I recognised artwork from Jehovah Witness literature.
It brought back memories of looking through the weird and wonderful pictures that JW's use, - so I decided I would bring them into my art.
I remember being so excited when a new JW publication would come about, their Evolution or Creation books, Paradise On Earth and especially the Revelations Book.
The book of Revelations is a surreal book in the bible and speaks about the end of the world, a scarlet beast, a dragon with seven heads and ten horns, Armageddon and a massive war between heaven and hell, its full on. I remember sitting for hours, trawling through the colourful pictures, copying some and believing all of it.
Being fascinated by the angels and the horses of the apocalypse.
So using these pictures, which I cut out of an old Revelation book I decided to create a piece that would show these zanny illustrations and a bizarre way.
